Heels Hold First Fall Scrimmage

Chapel Hill, NC -- The Blue team took a 7-5 win over Navy as the Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Fall on Monday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. A whopping fifteen pitchers saw action, each throwing one inning apiece in the 7 1/2 inning scrimmage.
Johnny Castagnozzi's infield single to short gave Navy a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Brandon Eike grounded into a fielder's choice to second to plate a run and tie the score in the bottom of the first.
Vance Honeycutt drove in two runs in the top of the second with a single to right to put Navy up 3-1. Blue cut the lead to 3-2 on Danny Serretti's double to left center in the bottom of the inning.
Brandon Eike gave Blue a 4-3 lead with a two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the third. Navy knotted the score at 4-4 when Reece Holbrook scored from third on a wild pitch in the fifth. Danny Serretti belted a mammoth homer to right in the fifth for a 5-4 Blue lead.
Blue picked up two more runs in the sixth. Tomas Frick grounded into a fielder's choice to score Brandon Eike, then Mac Horvath scored on an error for a 7-4 lead. Navy got its final run in the eighth when Casey Cook scored on a wild pitch.
Danny Serretti was 3-3 with a double and a home run for Blue. Patrick Alvarez was 2-4 with two runs scored, and Brandon Eike was 1-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Vance Honeycutt led Navy by going 2-4 with two RBI. Casey Cook was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Shaddon Peavyhouse, Caden O'Brien, Gage Gillian, Shawn Rapp, Alden Segui, Kyle Mott, Caleb Cozart and Own Flynn threw for Blue. Connor Bovair, Will Sandy, Davis Palermo, Brandon Schaeffer, Nik Pry, Nick Argento and Tanner Quick threw for Navy.
Gillian, Rapp, Mott and Cozart each threw scoreless innings for Blue. Schaeffer and Quick each threw a scoreless inning for Navy.
Carolina's next scrimmage will be on Friday.
