WBB Ready For Season's First Road Game

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The North Carolina women's basketball team plays away from Chapel Hill for the first time this season on Sunday, traveling to take on the James Madison Dukes.
Tipoff at Atlantic Union Bank Center is 2 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+. Listen to the radio broadcast here.
No. 13 UNC is 3-0 with an average margin of victory of 42.3 points so far this season. Five Tar Heels are averaging double figures and seven are at 9.0 or higher. The Tar Heels rank in the top 10 nationally in field goal percentage defense (fifth with opponents shooting 25.7 percent), rebounds per game (fifth at 52.3), scoring defense (sixth with opponents averaging 44 ppg), and rebounding margin (sixth at +23).
James Madison is 3-1 after a season-opening loss to Maine at home then wins over Millersville (away), Queens (home) and Longwood (away). Kiki Jefferson leads the Dukes in scoring with 22.8 points per game, averaging more than double the next highest scorer on her team.
The Series with JMU
• UNC leads the overall series, with JMU 3-1 after winning the last three in a row.
• The teams are meeting for the second year in a row. In the first half of the home-and-home series, Carolina won 93-47 on Dec. 3, 2021, in Chapel Hill. It was the eighth game of the season for the Tar Heels, who improved to 8-0 with the win.
• In last year's matchup, Deja Kelly led the way with 21 points and Alyssa Ustby scored 18. Anya Poole was the team's top rebounder with 10 and Eva Hodgson led the way with seven assists. As a team, the Tar Heels hit 10 threes in 15 attempts. Seven different players made a three and the team shot 66.7 from long range.
• Senior Eva Hodgson played against the Dukes four times while she competed for William & Mary in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Although the Tribe fell all four times, Hodgson averaged 13.3 ppg. She scored 20 in both of the matchups in 2020, her sophomore season.
• Carolina's Anya Poole and JMU's Jamia Hazell were high school teammates at Southeast Raleigh High School.
