Illinois Tops Men's Tennis, 4-2

The Tar Heels took the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, then later led by a score of 2-1 after No. 87 Brian Cernoch topped No. 67 Olivier Stuart in straight sets 6-2 and 7-5 at No. 2 singles.
The Illini closed the match with three consecutive wins at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to come from behind and take the victory, 4-2.
Logan Zapp and Casey Kania started the afternoon for Carolina with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger won their second match of the week at No. 1 singles in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4) to give Carolina a 1-0 lead in the early going.
Siphosothando Montsi edged Benjamin Sigouin in a thriller at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5). The Illini's Alex Brown survived a three-set match with Logan Zapp at No. 4, beating the UNC sophomore by a score of 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Gabrielus Guzauskas beat Henry Lieberman 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 5 singles to clinch the win for Illinois.
Carolina will return to action next Saturday February 26 against Columbia in Chapel Hill.
