Keefer Wins Long Jump Title at ACC Indoor Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Anna Keefer won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in the women's long jump Friday, setting a school record on the second day of competition at ACC Indoors at Rector Field House. Keefer's distance of 21-6 (6.55m) was nine inches beyond her closest competitor.
Through Day 2, the Tar Heel women are fifth and the men are fourth overall.
Although Keefer was the only one to win gold, three other Tar Heels joined her in setting school records. Jill Shippee broke her own record in the women's weight throw with a distance of 72-8.5 (21.16m) to place third in the field.
Alex Potts placed fifth in the women's pole vault with a school-record height of 14.1.75 (4.31m).
In the men's 5K, three Tar Heels finished below the previous school record, which had stood since 1983. Parker Wolfe placed fourth in 13:48.15 to claim the record. Alex Ostberg placed fifth in 13:48.16 and Patrick Anderson was seventh in 13:48.89 to take over the second and third spots.
Daniel McArthur's weight throw distance of 69-9 (21.18m) was a PR for him. He placed fourth in the field and now ranks fifth in the UNC record books.
In the men's mile, Jesse Hunt won his heat in 4:05.1 to advance to the finals. Two Tar Heels advanced in the women's mile, with Taryn Parks turning in a PR of 4:37.98, fifth in school history. Carlee Hansen also earned a spot in the finals with a run of 4:42.44
Kyle Reinheimer and Makayla Paige both raced well in preliminaries to earn spots in the 800 meters on Saturday. In addition to her record-breaking long jump, Keefer ran a PR of 7.32 in the 60-meter dash to advance to Saturday's finals.
In the men's heptathlon, all three Tar Heels finished in the top eight. Sam Corley was fifth win a total of 5,337. Isaac Young was seventh with 5153 points. Bryce Kazmaier was eighth with 4953 points.
