Wiltrout Earns Bronze In NCAA Javelin

EUGENE, Ore. – Graduate student Madison Wiltrout placed third in women's javelin Thursday evening at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Her throw of 183-5 (56.46m) was good for the bronze medal, behind BYU's Ashton Riner (191-1) and Nebraska's Maddie Harris (189-3).
Wiltrout, from Connellsville, Pa., earned first-team All-America honors by virtue of placing in the top eight in her event.
Two other Tar Heels earned second-team All-America honors on Thursday. Jill Shippee placed ninth overall in the women's hammer and Anna Keefer was 10th in the long jump.
Sasha Neglia placed 20th in the women's steeplechase, missing out advancing to the finals.
One more Tar Heel is set to compete in Eugene. Alex Ostberg, a graduate student from Darien, Conn., will run in the men's 5,000 meters, which is set for Friday at 7:55 p.m. PT.
