Four high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of North Carolina and play on the men's golf team, head coach Andrew DiBitetto announced today.
Mykhailo (Misha) Golod of Kyiv, Ukraine, Ethan Paschal of Fayetteville, N.C., Grant Roscich of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Sihan Sandhu of Ashburn, Virginia are joining the Tar Heels' program.
"This is a class that has won golf tournaments and has talent, athleticism, purpose and motivation," says DiBitetto, the 2022 and 2023 ACC Coach of the Year. "They are all perfect fits for us, as they are competitive, work extremely hard and are passionate about their development. Misha, Ethan, Grant and Sihan are coming here because they want to be pushed and want to improve on and off the course. Coach (Noah) Goldman and I are excited to officially welcome these young men and look forward to helping them be successful in all areas of life."
Golod is the son of Oleg and Vita Golod. A member of the Ukranian National Team, he has played at the Kyiv International School and Windermere Prep in Florida. Golod won the Notah Begay III Junior National Championship in 2022 and 2023, the Sunshine State Amateur in 2022 and four Ukranian junior national titles.
In 2023, Golod also finished second at the Notah Begay Orlando 54, 10th at the Orange Bowl Invitational and 10th at the Sergio and Angela Garcia Foundation Junior.
"I chose to play college golf at North Carolina because I wanted to be a part of the best academic and athletic program in the country," says Golod. "Together with a team of the best players and coaches, I believe I will grow the most as a player and a person. I fell in love with Chapel Hill the first time I saw it and I could not be more excited to be joining the Tar Heel family."
Paschal, a second-team 2023 Rolex Junior All-America, attends Terry Sanford High School, where he plays for Coach Jeff Morehead. The son of Kim and Michael Paschal, Ethan was medalist in the 2023 North Carolina 3A state championship and led his team to the state title. He won the individual championship with a birdie on the fourth playoff hole. He earned second-team Rolex Junior All-America honors.
Paschal was the conference player of the year in 2023. He shot 8-under 63 to win the conference championship and 65 to win the North Carolina Mideast Regional.
Paschal shot a second-round 67 and tied for 17th in stroke play to earn his way into match play in the 2023 United States Amateur. Ranked No. 7 in the class of 2024, he also played in the 2021 and 2022 U.S. Junior Amateurs.
He shot 65 in the first round to place second this year in the AJGA Junior at Canebrake, was third in the Dustin Johnson World Junior, sixth in the Team TaylorMade Invitational with three rounds in the 60s and 17th in the Wyndham Invitational with a final-round 66.
I chose to go to Carolina because I wanted to be a part of this prestigious program," says Paschal. "The coaches and the team impressed me from the start and I can't wait to be a Tar Heel."
Roscich plays for Coach Paul Hezlett at Glenbard West High School, where he has earned Academic Gold Bars five times. He is the son of Rebecca and Dave Roscich.
In 2023, he defended his title in the Illinois State Junior Amateur (the Slovitt Cup). He also won the Kevin Streelman Invitational and tied for 13th in the North and South Junior Amateur. He was third in 2021 in the Illinois Junior Am and in 2022 in the AJGA Stan Utley Invitational
"I chose UNC because I wanted to become a part of an amazing program with the best players and coaches in the country," says Roscich. "I believe this is the place I will grow the most as a player, as well as a person."
Sandhu is the son of Ruby and Navneen Sandhu. He was an honor student for three years in the Bridgeway Academy and currently is enrolled in the Laurel Springs School.
A Rolex Junior All-America in 2021, Sandhu is a two-time winner of the Future Masters Championship. In 2018, he broke a 55-year tournament record with scores of 67-63-66.
He won the 2016 U.S. Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, won five matches for Team USA in the 2018 Van Horn Cup, won the 2019 Teen World Championship in Scotland and the 2021 Donald Ross Championship, made match play in the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur and was the youngest member of the 2019 and 2020 AJGA Junior All-Star team.
In 2023, he placed second in the Palmetto Amateur, fourth in the Eastern Amateur, 17th in both the R&A Boys Amateur Championship and Pacific Northwest Amateur and 28th in the Dogwood Invitational.
Sandhu was the youngest male golfer to earn a top-100 Rolex AJGA ranking.
"I believe UNC will be the best place for me to grow as a person and as a golfer," says Sandhu. "This belief comes from Coach DiBitetto. During the recruiting process, Coach separated himself from the numerous other coaches I interacted with by showing his incredible work ethic, commitment, blue-collar mindset, and love for competition, which he has also instilled in the team. These traits are reflected in the team and have shown proven results. For these reasons, I have chosen to become a Tar Heel, and I am looking forward to learning and becoming the best person and golfer I can become."
