February 17, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In its first top-10 showdown of the season, No. 1 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse is set to host No. 7 Florida on Saturday, Feb. 18, for a noon ET start time at Dorrance Field.
The game, which marks the first of a nation-leading eight nationally-televised contests for the Tar Heels, will be aired on ACC Network with Joe Beninati and Rachael DeCecco on call.
Tickets are available for purchase here.
The top-ranked UNC squad enters Saturday's matchup with a 2-0 record after defeating No. 12 James Madison, 14-9, in the season opener before topping Liberty, 18-6, on Wednesday. That extends its 42-straight regular-season win streak, which is tied as the third-longest in NCAA history.
Carolina has also won 35 consecutive home games, the longest streak in program history.
Leading UNC's offense is Reilly Casey, Marissa White and Caitlyn Wurzburger who all have six goals apiece with the latter having a team-high 12 points. Casey's 11 points in the first two games surpassed the nine she totaled all of 2022 while White impressed in her rookie debut with five goals.
With three assists in each of the last two games, Wurzburger's career total now sits at 65, good enough to rank eighth all-time in program history.
The Tar Heels' defensive unit is backed by goalkeeper Alecia Nicholas, who was tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 14. The sophomore made 14 stops in the season opener during her first career appearance and had eight against the Flames.
Florida will arrive in Chapel Hill at 1-0 on the young season after besting No. 17 Michigan, 17-8. This will be the 15th meeting all-time between the Tar Heels and Gators with Carolina leading the series at 11-3.
UNC defeated UF, 15-11, last year in Gainesville during its undefeated, national championship season.
