Three Tar Heel juniors have earned Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball honors, as announced on Tuesday by the league. Deja Kelly and Alyssa Ustby were named to the 10-member All-ACC first team, and Kennedy Todd-Williams was named to the second team.
All three are starters for No. 18 UNC (20-9. 11-7 ACC), which is seeded seventh in the 2023 ACC Tournament and opens play on Thursday with a second-round game. Tipoff against the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between No. 10 Clemson and No. 15 Pitt is at 6 p.m.
Kelly earned first-team honors for the second year in a row. A guard from San Antonio, Texas, she leads UNC and ranks fifth in the ACC in scoring with 16.5 points per game, 17.1 ppg in conference action. She ranks 11th in the league in assists (3.3 per game), 11th in field goal percentage (.381), 12th in assist-turnover ratio (1.3), and 14th in free throw percentage (.713). The MVP of the Phil Knight Invitational earlier this season, she's been named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team and the Late Season Top 20 Watch List for the Wooden Award.
Ustby was named to the first team after earning second-team recognition last season. A guard/forward from Rochester, Minn., she ranks in the ACC's top 10 in field goal percentage (third, .519), rebounding (fourth, 8.7 per game), blocks (ninth, 1.2 per game) and steals (ninth, 2.0 per game). In ACC games only, she's second in steals (2.4) and sixth in blocks (1.4). Her scoring average of 13.2 points per game ranks third on the team and 14th in the ACC. An Academic All-District honoree, she has been named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team and to the Cheryl Miller Award Top 10.
Todd-Williams makes her All-ACC debut. A guard from Jacksonville, N.C., she ranks second on the team and 12th in the ACC in scoring with 13.6 points per game. She's 11th in the league in three-pointers per game (1.6) and has hit more this season (47) than in her first two collegiate seasons combined. The only Tar Heel to have started every game this season, she's one of the team's top defenders and ranks ninth in the ACC in minutes per game.
Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Kitley was named the ACC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Notre Dame's Niele Ivey was honored as the ACC Coach of the year. Florida State's Ta'Niya Latson was named ACC Freshman of the Year and teammate Makayla Timpson was honored as the ACC's Most Improved. Duke's Celeste Taylor was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and NC State's Saniya Rivers was named ACC Sixth Player of the Year.
