Gymnastics To Celebrate Senior Day Friday Against Air Force

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team returns to Carmichael Arena for the final time this season, hosting Air Force for a 6 p.m. ET meet on Friday, March 3. Â
The meet will be aired on ACCNX with Brian Waer and Sydney Snead on call. Admission is free and open to the public.
At the conclusion of the meet, the Tar Heels will honor their seven seniors in Elizabeth Culton, Tina Ghashghaei, Bri Greenlow, Hannah Nam, Sophie Silverstein, Hallie Thompson and Jay Weil as part of the Senior Day celebration.Â
North Carolina enters the meet with a 13-4 overall record and finished East Atlantic Gymnastics League action at a perfect 6-0, earning the title of undefeated regular season champion for the second year in a row.
In its last outing, UNC posted a decisive 195.825-194.950 win over Temple on Feb. 24 in Carmichael Arena after recording the highest score of the meet on three of four rotations. It also won or shared the title on every event: Kaya Forbes on vault (9.875) and floor (9.850), Lali Dekanoidze on bars (9.900), and Julia Knower on beam (9.900) and all-around (39.275).
The Tar Heels rank 21st nationally on bars (49.210), 30th on vault (49.030), 37th on beam (48.895) and 44th on floor (49.005) with two meets remaining before postseason commences. They also rank second as a team in the EAGL, third on both beam and vault, and fifth on floor.   Â
Individually, Dekanoidze holds the highest ranking in the program on bars at eighth in the country with a national qualifying score of 9.945. That mark ranks first in the conference, and the sophomore's NQS of 9.860 on vault is fifth among EAGL competitors.Â
Also finding themselves in the league rankings is Knower whose average floor score of 9.905 is tied for second. Elizabeth Culton sits at fourth on beam with a 9.845.
Carolina has 21 rotations of 49.000+ this season, the second most in the EAGL. The Tar Heels have also won or shared 22 of 30 event titles (including all-around) across the last six meets, with Dekanoidze and Knower combining for 20 event wins on the year.
UNC has also posted the highest score of the meet on bars in every meet since the season opener on Jan. 6.
