July 10, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Four members of the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team have earned a spot on the 2024 U.S. Women's U20 Training Team, as announced by USA Lacrosse following the tryouts last weekend.
Rising sophomores Darcy Felter and Kaleigh Harden as well as incoming freshmen Chloe Humphrey and GraceAnn Leonard were named to the 42-person training team. Their selection comes after three days of intense tryouts which featured nearly 100 of the nation's top players in Sparks, Maryland, at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters from July 7-9.
The U20 training team returns to Maryland for a training camp in August before competing at the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic in October. Following the Fall Classic, the final roster of who will be selected to represent Team USA at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong next summer will be determined.
North Carolina had the most players represented at the tryouts of any school in the country. The Tar Heels' selected players for the training team is the second-most of any college through the athlete's current enrollment or commitment.
World Lacrosse raised the age group from U19 to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. The U.S. won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019, finishing as runner-up in 1995 and 2015. Northwestern's Kelly Amonte Hiller will serve as head coach of Team USA.
