CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team has been picked third in the annual USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20 poll, as announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon.
Under the direction of head coach Jenny Levy, the Tar Heels finished the 2023 season ranked fifth in the country. Carolina reached the ACC Tournament championship game for the seventh straight year and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals a season ago.Â
Returning to lead UNC this year are All-America selections Reilly Casey, Caroline Godine, Emily Nalls, Alecia Nicholas, Alyssa Long, Brooklyn Walker-Welch, Marissa White and Caitlyn Wurzburger. All eight players who earned an All-America nod in 2023 have returned for another season in Chapel Hill.Â
The Tar Heels have also welcomed talented newcomers who have been ranked the No. 1 freshman class in the country by Inside Lacrosse. Headlining the first-year group is No. 1 Chloe Humphrey and No. 4 Betty Nelson, marking UNC as the only school with two rookies in the top five.
