January 4, 2024 | Men's Tennis
CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—The University of North Carolina men's tennis team will begin the 2024 dual match season ranked No. 13 in the nation, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced this week.Â
Six Atlantic Coast Conference squads earned spots in the ITA Preseason Top 25, including No. 1 Virginia, No. 8 Duke, No. 13 UNC, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 20 Florida State and No. 21 NC State.
The Tar Heels released their 2024 spring schedule earlier this week, and eight UNC opponents were ranked in the preseason top 25. Three ranked non-conference opponents include No. 12 Columbia, No. 18 Georgia and No. 23 Florida (a potential opponent in the ITA Kickoff Weekend).
Carolina finished No. 14 in the final ITA rankings of the 2023 season, its 10th consecutive top-15 national finish. The Tar Heels (19-9) tied for third in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings and reached at least the NCAA Championship Round of 16 for a ninth consecutive time.Â
UNC hosted NCAA Championship matches in Chapel Hill for the ninth straight time in the NCAA Tournament, beating Drake and Utah at the Chewning Tennis Center before losing in the Sweet 16 at Texas.
The Tar Heels will begin final tune-ups for the 2024 campaign when they host the Tar Heel Invitational on January 13-15 at the Chewning Tennis Center.
The regular season will kick off officially on January 18 when Campbell and NC Central visit Chapel Hill for a doubleheader of dual matches.
