WBB Heads To Raleigh For Matchup With NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball team makes the short trip to Reynolds Coliseum Thursday night for a top-25 battle with No. 5 NC State. Tipoff is 8 p.m. and the game will air on ACC Network.
The No. 24 Tar Heels are 15-6 overall and 7-2 in ACC play. The host Wolfpack is 18-2 overall and 6-2 in league action.
Thursday's matchup is the first of two this month. The teams will meet again on Feb. 22 in Chapel Hill.
UNC vs. NC State
UNC and NC State will meet Thursday night for the 118th time in a rivalry that dates back to the 1974-75 season, Carolina's first as a varsity program under the umbrella of the Department of Athletics. NC State leads the series 63-54 after the teams split last season's games, with each team winning on its home court.
• In the most recent meeting, in Raleigh on Feb. 16, 2023, the Wolfpack won 77-66 in the teams' first overtime matchup since 2009. UNC led by 10 with 4:15 to play but the hosts staged a rally to tie the game and then dominated the overtime period, outscoring the Tar Heels 15-4 in the extra five minutes. Deja Kelly finished with 18 points for UNC, playing all but 53 seconds of the game's 45 minutes. Freshman Paulina Paris came off the bench for 14 points on 6-7 shooting, with her only miss coming from three-point range, where UNC was 4-25 on the night.
• The game was UNC's only overtime contest of the season and the Tar Heels haven't played OT since then.
• The teams have split their matchups in four of the past five seasons. (NC State won both in 21-22).

UNC returns home for another ranked matchup, hosting No. 17 Virginia Tech for a noon matchup on Sunday. It's the Tar Heels' annual Play4Kay game.
• With six consecutive games at home or against in-state rivals, UNC nearly the entire month of February without leaving the state. After the trip to Raleigh, UNC has three home games (one against NC State) and trips to Duke and Wake Forest before traveling to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech on Feb. 25.
