Women’s Lacrosse Hosts East Carolina On Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following another Atlantic Coast Conference victory this past weekend, No. 9 North Carolina women's lacrosse returns home for a nonconference in-state matchup with East Carolina on Tuesday, March 12. First draw is set for 5 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field.

Heels vs. Pirates
This will be the third meeting all-time between UNC and ECU. The Tar Heels lead the series at 2-0 and have out-scored the Pirates 33-12 in their two games. This will be the second contest played in Chapel Hill.
In the Last Meeting
The last contest between the two teams was on April 11, 2023, in Greenville. UNC held on for a 12-9 win after six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Caitlyn Wurzburger had two goals and an assist while Alecia Nicholas made six saves.
Last Time Out
The Tar Heels are coming off a decisive 18-9 win at No. 20 Clemson on Saturday. UNC's defense held the Tigers to their fewest goals (9) and shots (20) all season and kept their leading goal scorer with a goal and only two shots.
Caroline Godine and Wurzburger both had a game-high seven points. Godine had five goals and two assists while Wurzburger had a hat trick and four helpers. Wurzburger reached her 100th career assist and Ashley Humphrey reached her 150th career assist in the contest.
East to North
Current UNC draw specialist, Flynn Reed, is a graduate transfer from East Carolina. A Chapel Hill native, she finished her career as a Pirate with 176 draw controls. She graduated magna cum laude from ECU in May 2023 with a degree in elementary education.
Movin' Up
Wurzburger's seven-point effort on Saturday moved her up from 11th to eighth on Carolina's all-time career points list. She now has 226 career points and is two points from seventh, four from sixth and 20 from fifth.
A senior, Wurzburger also had 103 career assists which ranks fourth all-time in program history. She's 22 assists away from ranking third and 33 away from second.

Carolina's defense has held its opponents to 9.0 goals per game so far in 2024, including just 8.3 in conference play. UNC is currently on a six-game streak (since the season opener) of holding its opponent to 10 goals or under. In ACC play, the Tar Heels held Virginia (9), Notre Dame (7) and Clemson (9) to its fewest goals all season.
