Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Syracuse, 20-5

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The ninth-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-5 decision to seventh-ranked Syracuse on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York.
The Tar Heels now sit a 6-3 (2-2 ACC) on the year while the Orange move to 5-3 (4-0 ACC).

The ninth-ranked Tar Heels return home for back-to-back games at Dorrance Field, first hosting Louisville on Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. ET. It will be a doubleheader with the men's team and one ticket gains access to both events.
UNC then has its nonconference finale on Monday, March 25, at 4:30 p.m. ET against Northwestern, the defending national champions. Tickets are available for purchase here.

How It Happened
- Syracuse got off to a quick start offensively, netting five unanswered goals in the first four minutes of play.
- The Tar Heels were able to slow down the Orange offense but struggled to create chances of their own. Alyssa Long finally got UNC on the board late in the first, but SU held a 5-1 advantage after the opening quarter.
- Long made the most of another free-position opportunity, cashing in for her second of the day before Eva Ingrilli broke through the zone to cut the deficit to four.
- The quick start gave Syracuse an 8-3 advantage at the break. Despite giving up five early goals, UNC only trailed by one draw control and three shots after the first half.
- The Tar Heels could not combat a Syracuse onslaught in the second half, as the Orange ended with a 20-5 win.
- Syracuse out-shot Carolina 38-17, also holding a 27-8 edge on shots on goal and 18-9 on the draw.
- Emily Nalls was all over the field, finishing with one assist, four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Ellie Traggio also forced two turnovers and had a pair of ground balls.
- Alecia Nicholas and Stella Harrison combined for seven saves.
