Shoes 4 Hope
North Carolina men's and women's lacrosse is teaming up with UNC Children's Hospital for the fight against pediatric cancer. Both teams will be hosting their first Shoes 4 Hope game this Saturday.
The Shoes 4 Hope doubleheader is part of Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide initiative that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Patients at UNC Children's Hospital painted Nike sneakers for the Tar Heel coaches and staff to wear during Saturday's doubleheader. Earlier this month, several UNC lacrosse players, coaches and staff members visited the hospital to paint shoes with the kids.
The shoes are up for auction to support Pediatric Hematology Oncology at UNC Children's. All proceeds and donations benefit local children fighting cancer. The auction officially closes on April 22.
The auction can be found here. Bidding starts at $150.
Dogs at Dorrance
Saturday's game marks UNC Lacrosse's second annual Dogs at Dorrance doubleheader. There will be Carolina Lacrosse dog collars for the first 150 dogs in attendance.
Fans who bring their dogs will be directed to sit in Sections 19 and 20 for both the women's and the men's game.
Heels vs. Cards
This will be the 11th meeting all-time between Carolina and Louisville. The Tar Heels lead the series at a perfect 10-0, including 5-0 in Chapel Hill. UNC has out-scored UofL 179-68 all-time, and has held the Cardinals to eight goals or under in nine of their 10 games.
In the Last Meeting
The last contest between UNC and UofL was on March 16, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky. The Tar Heels won 20-7, which marked Jenny Levy's 100th career ACC victory.
Reilly Casey (4g, 3a) and Caitlyn Wurzburger (5g, 2a) both had career-high seven-point efforts in the last meeting with Louisville. UNC out-shot UofL 44-19 and had a 21-10 edge on the draw. Alecia Nicholas made eight saves.
Last Time Out
The Tar Heels are coming off a tough 20-5 loss at seventh-ranked Syracuse on March 16. It was the worst loss in program history. It was also the first time UNC has allowed 20+ goals and lost by 10+ goals since a 21-9 defeat to Northwestern On May 4, 2009.
Despite the outcome, Emily Nalls proved her versatility as a defender by recording one assist, four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Canada Connection
Louisville head coach Scott Teeter is also the head coach of Canada's senior women's
national team. UNC junior Brooklyn Walker-Welch and assistant coach Aurora Cordingley have played internationally under him.
Teeter, Cordingley and Walker-Welch earned gold at The World Games in July 2022, going undefeated during the championship in Birmingham, Ala. It was the first gold medal for Canada's senior women's national team in history. They also earned silver together at the World Championship in Towson, Md., earlier that summer.
Nine years ago, Teeter and Cordingley won gold in Scotland at the 2015 U-19 World Championships. It was Canada's first women's field lacrosse title.
Teeter and Levy, former U.S. National Team head coach, went head-to-head in the World Championships in July 2022, with Team USA edging Team Canada, 11-8 for gold. Marie McCool (U.S.) and Cordingley were both named to the All-World Team.
