Men's Lacrosse Leads Wire-To-Wire, Defeats Hofstra 21-9

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Paced by 11 different goal scorers and allowing single-digit goals for the fourth time this season, No. 18 North Carolina (4-2) defeated Hofstra, 21-9, in non-conference action on Saturday.

How It Happened
• The Tar Heels jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter, with five different goal scorers and four first quarter saves from goalkeeper Collin Krieg.
• Hofstra scored to begin the second quarter, however Carolina scored four-straight, with a goal each courtesy of Logan McGovern, James Matan, Brady Wambach and Dominic Pietramala.
• Hofstra would halt the Tar Heel momentum, but a goal from Owen Duffy and a man-up strike by Ryan Levy would help Carolina enter halftime ahead, 11-3.
• North Carolina scored four of the first five goals in the third quarter, expanding its lead to 15-4. The Pride would hit the back of the net for two of the final three goals in the quarter, with the Tar Heels ahead 16-6 entering the fourth.
• The Tar Heels outscored Hofstra 5-3 in the final frame, with McGovern, Duffy, Alex Breschi, Andrew Preis and Edwin Shy scoring for Carolina.

• Duffy scored four goals and handed out five assists for the Carolina offense.
• McGovern had three goals and three assists, with James Matan also matching with a hat trick.
• Ryan Levy, Matt Wrede and Pietramala each posted multi-goal efforts.
• Wambach, Pietramala, Cooper Frankenheimer and Danny Striano all collected four-or-more ground balls.
