April 10, 2024 | Football, Academics
CHAPEL HILL – Tar Heels Noah Burnette, Christopher Holliday, Spencer Rolland and Spencer Triplett have been named to the 2024 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, the NFF announced on Wednesday. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is celebrating its 18th year and is comprised of college football players from all divisions who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
A Raleigh native, Burnette is expected to graduate after the spring semester with a degree in exercise science. He currently holds a 3.58 GPA. Burnette earned second-team All-ACC honors last season after making 19-of-20 field goals and all 43 PATs. He was also named to the All-ACC Academic team last season.
Holliday, a Morehead-Cain Scholar, will finish his double major in economics and exercise science this spring and currently has a 3.98 GPA. He's an All-ACC Academic honoree, an ACC Honor Roll member, a Tar Heel Scholar-Athlete, and is a member of the Dean's List and the UNC 4.0 Club. Holliday was a stalwart on UNC's special teams units having played in all 12 games last season and all 13 in 2023.
A Burnsville, Minn. native, Rolland was a graduate transfer from Harvard, who is working towards his MBA at UNC. He started 26 games at right tackle for the Tar Heels over his two seasons in Chapel Hill. Rolland earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors and was a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy in 2023.
Triplett, a Shelby, N.C. native, will complete his degree work this spring and has a 3.54 GPA in exercise science. He has served as the Tar Heels snapper on field goals and PATs and played in all 27 games over the last two seasons. He was recognized on the All-ACC Academic team after last season.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The program further strengthens the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes at the 772 colleges and universities with football programs nationwide.
Jon F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies, provided the funds to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. He made the contribution as part of his legacy to the organization after serving as NFF Chairman from 1994-2006. He currently serves the organization as chairman emeritus. Each player awarded membership in this year's Honor Society will receive a certificate commemorating his or her achievement.
