CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 9 Syracuse (10-4, 2-1 ACC) was able to withstand a late North Carolina (6-6, 0-2 ACC) surge, defeating the Tar Heels 10-9 in Atlantic Coast Conference action.
How It Happened
• Carolina jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter, with Owen Duffy, Ryan Levy (man-up) and Dominic Pietramala scoring.
• Syracuse answered with four-straight goals to end the first, leading by one after the opening 15 minutes.
• The Orange scored the first three goals of the second quarter, capping off the 7-0 run.
• Matt Wrede's man-up goal with just over a minute remaining halted the Syracuse momentum, as Carolina trailed 7-4 entering halftime.
• Syracuse started the second half with three consecutive goals, leading 10-4, their largest lead of the contest.
• The Tar Heels answered with a 5-0 run, trimming the deficit to one with just under two minutes remaining in the contest.
• In the spurt, Duffy and Trevor Deubner scored two goals each, as Logan McGovern hit the back of the net to bring the game within one-goal.

• Duffy led the Tar Heels with three goals and two assists.
• Deubner (two goals), Pietramala, McGovern, Wrede and Levy rounded out the Carolina scoring.
• Brady Wambach (10-20) and Andrew Tyeryar (1-3) combined for the faceoff effort on the day.
• Goalkeeper Collin Krieg stopped 17 shots, including 11 first half saves.
• Wambach, Ty English, Krieg, Peter Thomann, McGovern and Pietramala all collected three-or-more ground balls.

• Saturday was the 14th one-goal game in the series history, including the third-straight season.
• Duffy has now tied Robin Beran's freshman single-season goal record (32 goals in 1973). The attackman is now two points from tying Nicky Galasso's freshman points record (56 in 2011).
• English's six ground balls is a new career-high.
• Saturday was the ninth time in Krieg's career stopping 15-or-more shots. The effort was the most saves for the Stony Brook, N.Y. product since making 18 stops against Syracuse in 2022.
