Men's Lacrosse Suffers Setback At No. 1 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IND. – A 7-0 run from between the second and third quarter propelled top-ranked Notre Dame (9-1, 3-0 ACC) over North Carolina (6-7, 0-3 ACC), 14-6.
How It Happened
• Carolina led after the opening quarter, 3-2, with a goal each courtesy of Harry Wellford, James Matan and Dominic Pietramala.
• Notre Dame would score three of the four goals in the second quarter, as Logan McGovern scored the lone Tar Heel goal in the frame.
• The host Fighting Irish entered the half ahead by one, 5-4.
• Coming out of the half, Notre Dame outscored Carolina 6-0 in the third, taking an 11-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
• McGovern and Wellford scored their second goals of the game in the opening few minutes of the fourth.
Tar Heel Performances
• McGovern and Wellford hit the back of the net twice each.
• Pietramala and Matan posted first quarter goals, rounding out the Carolina scoring.
• Andrew Tyeryar (6-10) and Brady Wambach (6-13) combined to win the faceoff battle.
• Goalkeeper Collin Krieg made eight stops.
• McGovern, Peter Thomann, Krieg, Tyeryar and Wambach collected three-or-more ground balls.
