No. 2 Virginia Defeats Men's Lacrosse In ACC Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Second ranked Virginia (10-1, 1-0) jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back, defeating North Carolina (6-5, 0-1) in Atlantic Coast Conference action, 14-6, on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
• Carolina scored just over a minute into the game in transition, after Paul Barton intercepted a Cavalier pass and started the break for the Tar Heels, ending with a Logan McGovern goal.
• Virginia answered with five-straight to end the first, leading 6-1.
• McGovern scored the second quarter's opening goal, with an assist courtesy of Trevor Deubner.
• The host Cavaliers followed with three-straight goals.
• Carolina rattled off back-to-back goals, from Dewey Egan and Owen Duffy, trimming the deficit to five, 9-4.
• With just five seconds remaining in the opening half, Virginia's Jack Boyden hit the back of the net, giving the Cavaliers a 10-4 edge entering the break.
• Carolina scored less than a minute into the second half on a man-up opportunity, with Johnny Schwarz finding McGovern.
• Virginia scored the final two goals of the quarter, leading 12-5 after three.
