May 23, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina men's lacrosse freshman duo Owen Duffy and Brady Wambach have been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America list, announced Thursday morning.
The first-year Tar Heel tandem both landed on the honorable mention team. With the announcement, Carolina has posted at least one USILA first-, second-, or third-team, or honorable mention All-America for the 56th-straight season.
In late April, Duffy was named the 2024 ACC Freshman of the Year and earned All-ACC honors.
On the year, Duffy tied for a team leading 32 goals and 54 points, as well as being second on the Tar Heels with 22 assists. His 32 goals are tied with Robin Beran (1973) and teammate Dominic Pietramala (2024) for the most in a single season by a freshman in program history.
In 2024, Duffy had seven games with three-or-more goals and seven games with five-or-more points.
Duffy was the sixth Tar Heel in program history to be named ACC Freshman of the Year, the first since goalkeeper Caton Johnson in 2019. Duffy was the fourth Carolina attackman to earn Freshman of the Year honors, joining Jeff Sonke (1998), Marcus Holman (2010) and Nicky Galasso (2011).
In addition, Duffy became the first Carolina freshman to be named to the All-ACC team since Galasso in 2011.
Wambach appeared in all 14 contests this spring for Carolina, winning 146 faceoffs. His effort at the faceoff stripe was the third most faceoff wins by a Tar Heel freshman in program history. Wambach had eight double-digit faceoff wins, highlighted by 16 wins each against Army and Duke.
Brady ended the 2024 campaign with a .611 faceoff win percentage, which led the Atlantic Coast Conference and was fourth nationally. The Pittsford, N.Y. product helped the Carolina faceoff group finish the season with the nation's top faceoff win percentage.
Wambach led the Tar Heels with 85 ground balls this spring, posting two games with 10-or-more ground balls. His 6.07 ground balls per game ranked in the top-25 nationally.
Offensively, Wambach scored four goals and dished out four assists.
