Paige Advances To Quarterfinals On Day 2 Of NCAA T&F Regional
May 23, 2024 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, KY.—Makayla Paige won her 800m heat, meaning she will move on to the quarterfinals, looking to capture her first career berth in the NCAA Championships in the 800m on Friday, where she will race to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on June 5-8.
Thursday's dominance was more of the same for Paige, who continued her impressive season as one of the nation's top 800m runners. Her 2:00.97 800m school record that she set last month at the Wake Forest Invitational sits as the nation's 8th best time this season. Two weeks ago, she earned a silver medal in the event with a time of 2:04.07 at the ACC Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
After close to a 5-hour rain delay for the 10,000 meters, Fatima Alanis and Ava Dobson raced through the rain. Alanis achieved a personal record of 33:14.38 but finished just short of qualifying for the final in Oregon.
The NCAA East First Round will continue on Friday and Saturday in Lexington.
