Tar Heel Trio Invited To U.S. Women’s Lacrosse U20 Training Camp
June 4, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Rising North Carolina women's lacrosse junior Darcy Felter as well as incoming freshmen Kate Levy and Eliza Osburn have been invited to an upcoming training camp for the 2024 U.S. Women's U20 National Team, as announced by USA Lacrosse on Tuesday morning.
The Tar Heel trio is part of a 32-player roster which will head to USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland, from June 19-21.
This will serve as the final training camp before the official roster is announced for the 22-player squad that will represent Team USA at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China, from August 15-24.
The 32 invitees are a combination of players named to the initial training team last summer and additional players that participated in the tryout process. Additionally, rising UNC sophomores Chloe Humphrey and GraceAnn Leonard will not be at the upcoming training camp but are still under consideration.
With the inclusion of Humphrey and Leonard, North Carolina's five players vying for a spot on Team USA is the second-most of any school in the country. Levy and Osburn are two of just four incoming college freshmen invited to this month's camp.
Following this month's training camp, a total of 22 players – the maximum final roster size permitted by World Lacrosse – will be invited to a training camp at Northwestern from July 18-20. The team will then have one final camp at Stanford in August before heading to Hong Kong to compete for a world championship.
Ninety-nine of the nation's top players were invited to the U.S. Women's U20 tryouts in July 2023 to earn a spot on the 42-person U20 National Training Team. Felter, Humphrey, Leonard, Levy and Osburn were all named to that initial team last summer.
World Lacrosse raised the age group from U19 to U20 after the 2019 championship in Peterborough, Ontario. The U.S. won the event in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019, finishing as runner-up in 1995 and 2015. Northwestern's Kelly Amonte Hiller will serve as head coach of Team USA.
