World Champions! Levy, Team USA Win U20 World Championship Gold
August 24, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
HONG KONG – A dominant performance across all seven games in Hong Kong culminated in gold for Kate Levy and Team USA at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 World Championship on Saturday. The U.S. won the world title after a convincing 23-6 win against longtime rival Canada at Mong Kok Stadium.Â
Levy had three goals, one assist, four points, three draw controls and one caused turnover in the gold medal game. It was her first hat trick of the competition. The complete box score can be found here.
The reigning USA Lacrosse National High School Player of the Year, Levy amassed 10 goals, seven assists, 17 points, five caused turnovers and 11 draw controls across all seven games. The midfielder was one of just two college freshmen on the U.S. roster.
Team USA – which appeared in the championship game for the eighth straight time in the event's history – has now won six of eight women's junior world championships.Â
The U.S. earned back-to-back world titles after also winning gold five years ago in Ontario. Three former Tar Heels in Elizabeth Hillman ('23), Brooklyn Neuman ('23) and Caitlyn Wurzburger ('24) were on the team in 2019.Â
The United States out-scored its opponent by an impressive 210-20 margin in Hong Kong. The U.S. advanced to the gold medal game following its 33-1 victory over Australia in the semifinals. The team concluded pool play at 4-0 and earned the No. 2 seed in playoffs.
The 2024 Women's U20 World Championship was the first world championship of any kind to be held in Asia since 1997 and the first World Lacrosse event to use the new under-20 age designation for junior-level competition. The 10-day, 20-team tournament officially started on Aug. 15.
