Murphy Named Men’s Lacrosse Assistant Coach

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina men's lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi has announced Peter Murphy as the Tar Heels' newest assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to add Coach Murphy to the coaching staff this season," Breschi said. "His passion and love for Carolina Lacrosse is extraordinary, and he continues to mentor the student athletes both on and off the field. Being a Tar Heel himself, he understands the value of relationships with alumni and friends of the program."
Murphy, previously the Tar Heels' director of operations in 2024, joined the men's lacrosse staff in the fall of 2022 as a volunteer assistant.
A former team captain for Carolina, Murphy finished his Tar Heel career third all-time in career takeaways. In 1996, Murphy was an All-America and All-ACC honoree for Carolina, helping the program to an ACC regular season and tournament championship.
Prior to joining the staff, the 1997 Carolina graduate had stops coaching at Cardinal Gibbons High School and True Lacrosse.
