Rabman & Evans Roll Into ITA Semis, Qualify For NCAA Individual Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Thea Rabman and Tatum Evans both earned trips to the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships on Friday by advancing to the semifinals of the main draw of the ITA Women's All-American Championships.
After winning matches in the round of 16 in the morning, both Rabman and Evans dropped the first set of their quarterfinal matches before coming from behind to continue their impressive play this week and move on to Saturday's semifinals.
On Friday alone, Evans defeated a pair of opponents ranked in the top five of the preseason ITA singles rankings. In the round of 16 on Friday morning, she topped #4 Connie Ma of Stanford, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, for her third ranked win in a row to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw. Later in the day, she beat #5 Ange Oby Kajuru of Oklahoma State, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0 to reach the semis.
Rabman, ranked #43 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, beat a top-12-ranked opponent for the second day in a row. On Thursday in Cary, she beat #2 Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia, and on Friday morning she topped 12th-ranked Julia Fleigner of Michigan in straight sets, 7-6 (7), 6-1, to reach the quarterfinal round. On Friday afternoon, Rabman came from behind to move past #32 DJ Bennett of Auburn, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 into the semis.
Friday's main draw action was moved to Chapel Hill at the indoor Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center due to heavy rain in the area from the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Play was temporarily suspended due to a tornado warning in the vicinity in the morning.
In the main draw consolation bracket, Vidmanova beat #26 Carson Tanguilig, 6-1, 7-5.
The ITA All-American Championships will continue on Saturday.
