January 23, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ten former North Carolina women's lacrosse standouts have been named to inaugural Women's Lacrosse League rosters, as announced by the teams on Thursday.Â
Andie Aldave ('22) will play with Boston Guard and Caylee Waters ('17) will suit up for Maryland Charm. Maggie Bill ('18), Sam Geiersbach ('22), Ally Mastroianni ('22), Taylor Moreno ('22), Emily Nalls ('24), Sammy Jo Tracy ('17), Kayla Wood ('21) and Caitlyn Wurzburger ('24) will represent California Palms.Â
Led by team captain Mastroianni, 75 percent of the Palms' roster are Tar Heels.Â
In Fall 2024, the Premier Lacrosse League launched the WLL, a new professional league featuring some of the best women's lacrosse players in the world. The league is set to debut at the 2025 Maybelline Championship Series.
The WLL is composed of four inaugural teams – Boston Guard, California Palms, Maryland Charm and New York Charging – with 12 players on each roster. The league will play in the Sixes format, the style of lacrosse that will take place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Action begins on Feb. 11 at The St. James in Springfield, Va. More information about the WLL can be found here.
Aldave, Geiersbach, Mastroianni, Moreno, Nalls and Wurzburger were on UNC's undefeated, national championship season in 2022. Tracy and Waters were part of two NCAA-winning squads (2013, 2016) and Bill was part of the 2016 championship team.Â
