Bertagnole, Tar Heels Lead After 36 Holes At Notre Dame
October 6, 2025 | Men's Golf
Carson Bertagnole made seven birdies en route to a second-round 64 Monday afternoon to take a four-stroke advantage and lead the North Carolina Tar Heels to the top of the team standings after day one in the Fighting Irish Classic at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.
Bertagnole's 64 equaled the 13th-lowest round ever by a Tar Heel and the third-best ever by a UNC freshman. Only 63s shot by Ryan Burnett (2019 NCAA Stanford Regional) and Peter Fountain (2021 ACC Championship) were better than the Pinehurst native's 64 today.
Carolina has the 36-hole lead at 11-under-par 549, three strokes clear of UCLA and eight ahead of Louisville. Georgia Southern and Notre Dame are tied for fourth at 1 over par.
The Tar Heels are looking for their second consecutive team victory after tying Texas, Vanderbilt and Virginia for the title September 30 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational.
Bertagnole shot rounds of 67-64 for 9-under 131. His teammate, Andrew Riley (66-69) is one of four players tied for second at 5 under par. Oklahoma State's Brady Catalano, Notre Dame's Jacob Modleski and Louisville's Brady Smith are all tied for second.
Carolina's Sihan Sandhu (67-77) is tied for 39th at 4-over 144, and Keaton Vo (76-70) and Grant Roscich (73-73) are tied for 52nd at 6-over 146. Misha Golod, an individual entry, shot a career-low 5-under 65 in the second round and is tied for 22nd at 1-over 141.
The third and final round is Tuesday.
