Humphrey’s Record Day Keeps Women’s Lacrosse Undefeated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Graduate attacker Ashley Humphrey tied the program record for single-game assists with eight to highlight No. 2 North Carolina's dominant 18-5 win over No. 9 Clemson on Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field, the team's third top-10 victory of the year.
Following the win, the Tar Heels remain undefeated and improve to 8-0 (4-0 ACC) while the Tigers drop to 6-3 (2-2 ACC).
How It Happened
The second-ranked Tar Heels begin a three-game road stretch starting on Thursday, March 20, at Virginia Tech. First draw is set for 7 p.m. ET at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va., and will air on ACCNX.

How It Happened
- Chloe Humphrey's opening goal less than three minutes into the game sparked a 6-0 run for the home team that would last until the second quarter.
- UNC, whose defensive unit kept CU off the board in the first quarter, added four more goals to go up 5-0 after 15 minutes.
- C. Humphrey made it a first-half hat trick with UNC's first two goals of the second frame.
- Marissa White closed out the half with a pair of goals, securing the Tar Heels' 10-2 at the break.
- Carolina out-shot Clemson 20-10 during the first half, including 11-6 on target. UNC also controlled the draw, 10-4, and goalie Betty Nelson made four stops.
- The Tar Heels continued to pour them in throughout the second half, out-scoring the Tigers 8-3 during the final 30 minutes.
- A. Humphrey dished out her record-setting eighth assist on Addison Pattillo's goal in the final seconds of the third quarter.
- C. Humphrey's first goal of the final 15 marked her sixth of the day to match her single-game career high.
- The eldest Humphrey sister, Nicole, also got on the board with the last goal to seal an 18-5 UNC victory.
- A. Humphrey had a game-high eight points – all off assists – while C. Humphrey matched her career-high six goals to lead the field.
- UNC controlled nearly every statistical category, finishing with a 33-22 edge in shots and 22-16 advantage in shots on goal.
- Carolina had 18 draw controls to Clemson's seven. Kaleigh Harden and Sophie Student both had a game-high five.
- Led by Brooklyn Walker-Welch's three, UNC had a 15-11 advantage in ground balls. She also had a team-high two caused turnovers.
- Nelson made a career-high 11 saves between the pipes, with seven of those stops coming in the second half.
- A. Humphrey's eight assists tied Ela Hazar's program record first set on March 17, 2018, vs. Northwestern.
- Carolina moves to 4-0 in the series with Clemson, having out-scored them 69-28 all-time.
- UNC picked up its third top-10 win this year and has kept all opponents to nine goals or fewer this season.
- C. Humphrey has netted Carolina's first goal of the game in six of eight contests. She has had a hat trick in seven of eight games, four of which have come in the first half.
