Let’s Dance! Women’s Basketball Hosting NCAA Tournament 1st & 2nd Rounds

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the 32nd time, North Carolina women's basketball is headed to the Big Dance and makes its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament with the announcement of the 2025 Division I Women's Basketball Championship Bracket on Sunday night.
Earning the right to host first and second rounds from Chapel Hill, Carolina welcomes NCAA basketball to Carmichael Arena for the 13th time and the first since the 2015 season. Overall, when playing in NCAA Tournament games in Chapel Hill, North Carolina is 22-1.
Seeded at No. 3 in the Birmingham 2 Region, North Carolina faces off against 14th seeded Oregon State in the first round on Saturday. With a victory, the Tar Heels would take on the winner of the No. 6 seed West Virginia against the No. 11 seeded Columbia or Washington.
Making her 13th overall NCAA Tournament appearance in 18 seasons as a head coach, Courtney Banghart and Co. look to win two games in Chapel Hill to advance to UNC's 19th overall Sweet Sixteen.
Coming off of one of its best regular seasons in recent history, the Tar Heels notched a Banghart era best 27-wins and 13 in Atlantic Coast Conference action.
Boasting four players earning ACC recognition, All-ACC First Team member Alyssa Ustby, All-ACC Second Team honoree Maria Gakdeng and All-ACC Second Team point guard Reniya Kelly have been mainstays in UNC's success. Providing depth off the bench, ACC All-Freshman Team honoree Lanie Grant has made a splash in her first year of collegiate action.
Times and television designations for first and second round games from Carmichael Arena remain to be determined.
