March 25, 2025 | Track & Field
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina track and field opens its outdoor season by splitting the team between the local competition, the Raleigh Relays, and traveling out of state for the Texas Relays.
The decathlon kicks off the outdoor season at 12:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, March 26, in Austin, Texas. The majority of the team will travel 30 minutes down the road to NC State to compete with teams from across the country, from Vilanova to Ohio.
Indoor Season Recap: The men posted back-to-back top-ten finishes for the second time in program history at the national championship. Ethan Strand and Makayla Paige won an individual title in the women's 800m and men's 3000m. Strand was also part of the national runner-up team in the Distance Medley Relay.
Strand was named the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track & Field National Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday, March 24.
The senior became the first Tar Heel to win the national in track and field; Shalane Flanagan won the cross country award in 2002 and 2003.
