Humphrey, Traggio Claim Weekly Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina freshman attacker Chloe Humphrey has been named IWLCA and ACC Offensive Player of the week, while junior defender Ellie Traggio claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week for their performances in wins over two Top 25 teams, No. 3 Northwestern and No. 20 Notre Dame, last week. This is Humphrey's first national honor and second ACC recognition and Traggio earned her first conference award this season.
Humphrey continued her hot streak in two road wins over Top 25 teams, No. 3 Northwestern and No. 20 Notre Dame. Humphrey tallied 10 goals and five assists in just seven quarters due to the Notre Dame game being cut short by a quarter due to weather. She started against Northwestern by tallying four goals and four assists in a 15-12 victory. The four assists were a career best. Then, at Notre Dame, Humphrey posted six goals and an assist in a 14-3 win. She's now scored six goals three times this season and has tallied hat tricks in 10-of-11 games. Her 50 goals rank fourth nationally and second in the ACC and her 64 points are ninth nationally and fourth in the league.
Traggio was a menace for Carolina's defense in two road wins over Top 25 teams, No. 3 Northwestern and No. 20 Notre Dame, although her stats don't tell the whole story. The Heels only allowed 15 goals over the two matches (7.5 gpg) and she collected two caused turnovers and a ground ball. But, her impact was crucial in UNC remaining undefeated. She held her marks against both schools pointless. The player she defended against Northwestern was second on their team in points. She did the same against Notre Dame against a player third on their team in points and their leader in assists.
The second-ranked Tar Heels will host No. 1 Boston College on Saturday, April 5 in a battle of the two top teams in the country. First draw on Alumni Day is set for 11 a.m. with the game airing on ESPNU.
