Men Golf Ties for Third Place at Seminole Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The University of North Carolina men's golf team tied for third place with a 600 total in the Seminole Classic. South Carolina captured the team title with a 585 total in the rain-shortened 36-hole event that was played at the Golden Eagle Country Club which features a par 72, 6,965-yard layout. N.C. State was one shot behind the Gamecocks with a 586 total while a trio of teams tied with the Tar Heels at 600 ---- Tennessee, South Alabama and Mississippi State. Wake Forest finished seventh with a 603 total.
Kyle Thompson of South Carolina was the individual medalist firing a two-under-par 142 after rounds of 69-73. Mark Gauley of N.C. was the runner-up with a 143 total while two players tied for third place at 145 ---- Carl Pettersson of N.C. State and Kris Hannah of Florida State.
Paul Daniel was the low Tar Heel as he posted a 148 total and tied for 10th place. Brad Hyler tied for 17th place with a 149 total while Rob Simmons tied for 37th at 153, Max Harris tied for 43rd at 154 and Don Hill tied for 52nd place with a 156 total.
Carolina's next action comes March 13-14 when they travel to Huntersville, N.C., to play in the Birkdale Collegiate Classic.
