COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The North Carolina field hockey team suffered its second loss in three days on Sunday with a 5-0 defeat at Maryland. The Tar Heels are now 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the ACC.
Carla Tagliente scored twice for the Terrapins, while Dina Rizzo, Kelli Smith and Molly Kauffman scored one goal each. The game marked the Terrapins' first win over the Tar Heels since the 1993 National Championship, which Maryland won 2-1. It was the first shutout against Carolina since Virginia beat the Tar Heels 2-0 On Sept. 19, 1997.
Carolina has a week without competition before playing at Virginia on Oct. 18.
