North Carolina Falls 3-1 to Old Dominion

No. 1-ranked Old Dominion topped No. 5 North Carolina 3-1 at Foreman Field in Norfolk, Va. The game marked the first time since 1992 that Old Dominion had swept both meetings in the traditional home-and-home series.
Senior Nancy Pelligreen had the only goal for the Tar Heels, scoring to tie the game at 1-1 17:55 into the first half. For Old Dominion, Kelly Driscoll scored at 20:32 and Lisette Fortanier scored at 13:45 to give the Monarchs a 2-1 halftime lead. The team tacked on another goal, by Mimi Smith at 30:36, for the final margin.
ODU outshot UNC 16-6 and led 9-6 on penalty corners. Carolina goal keeper Nicole Frey totaled eight saves, while ODU keeper Jamie Hill had 3.
With the win, ODU improved to 18-2 overall, while North Carolina fell to 12-6 on the season.
