Three Field Hockey Players Named to All-ACC Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - For the fourth time in her career, senior forward Nancy Pelligreen has been named to the All-ACC field hockey team. Pelligreen, who leads the Tar Heels in scoring with 17 goals and eight assists for a total of 42 points on the season, was joined on the team by North Carolina sophomores Kristen McCann and Jana Toepel. McCann, a midfielder who made the All-ACC Tournament team last season, has scored six goals this season and is fourth on the team in points with 15. Toepel, a back, is third on the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists for 24 points.

Forwards-Corey Ceccolini, Duke; Meredith Elwell, Virginia; Nancy Pelligreen, North Carolina; Meridith Thorpe, Virginia.
Midfielders-Amy Marchell, Wake Forest; Kristen McCann, North Carolina; Mary Jo Reider, Duke; Keli Smith, Maryland; Michelle Vizzuso, Virginia.
Sweeper-Lori Mastropietro, Virginia.
Backs-Jen Pratt, Maryland; Courtney Sommer, Duke; Jana Toepel, North Carolina.
Goalkeeper-Meaghan Nitka, Wake Forest.
Player of the Year: Lori Mastropietro, Virginia
Coach of the Year: Missy Meharg, Maryland
The 12-7 Tar Heels, who lost 2-1 to Maryland Friday in the ACC Tournament second round, now await word on the NCAA Tournament bracket. That information will be announced this Wednesday, with first-round games to be played Saturday and second-round games to follow on Sunday.
