Field Hockey's Amy Tran Honored By ACC

Freshman goalkeeper Amy Tran has been named the ACC's Co-Player of the Week after earning shutouts last weekend against two teams that were ranked in the top five nationally. The Tar Heels beat No. 2 Old Dominion Saturday and No. 5 Virginia Sunday, both by 1-0 scores. Tran, who is from Grantville, Pa., totaled eight saves against ODU and two against Virginia. She now has 3.5 shutouts on the season and a goals against average of 0.58.
Tran shared this week's ACC honor with Duke forward Corey Ceccolini, a senior who scored seven goals over a three-game span last week.
The No. 3 Tar Heels, 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, are at home in Francis E. Henry Stadium again this weekend. They host Massachusetts on Saturday for an 11 a.m. game and James Madison on Sunday at 1 p.m.
