Five Tar Heels Named To National Field Hockey Squad

Five Tar Heel field hockey players have earned spots on the U.S. Under-21 team, which will compete in the Pan American Junior Championships in Bridgetown, Barbados, this April. The team also will compete in tours of Spain (March) and Europe (July).
Rising juniors Carrie Lingo, Abby Martin and Abbey Woolley and rising sophomores Amy Tran and Lizzy Duffy all earned spots on the squad during a week-long selection camp at Rutgers University.
Several other current and former Tar Heels are set to compete in the second session of A camp, Jan. 8-12 at the Olympic Training Center in San Diego, Calif. Rising seniors Kristen McCann and Jana Toepel will participate in tryouts for the U.S. National Team, as will Carolina alums Kate Barber, Nancy Pelligreen, Peggy Storrar, Cindy Werley and Jana Withrow. UNC head coach Karen Shelton and assistant coach Nick Conway will serve as coaches for the camp.
