North Carolina senior Kristen McCann has earned her second honor as ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week after strong performances against ACC foes Wake Forest and Duke. McCann scored the game-winner against both ACC opponents as the Tar Heels pulled out to a 2-0 lead in conference standings.
McCann, a native of Macungie, Pa., scored two goals as the No. 5 Tar Heels beat No. 3 Wake Forest 3-2 on Saturday, Sept. 30. With the win, North Carolina became the first team to defeat the Demon Deacons this season, ending the team's nine-game winning streak. On Sunday, Oct. 1, McCann scored the winning goal as the Tar Heels defeated No. 17 Duke, 2-1.
McCann leads North Carolina with 13 goals, one shy of her total from the 1999 season. She also earned the ACC honor for the week of Sept. 11.
