Curry, Peppers Named MVPs at UNC Football Banquet

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- Quarterback Ronald Curry and defensive end Julius Peppers were named North Carolina's Most Valuable Players on offense and defense, respectively, at the Tar Heels' annual football banquet on Sunday evening. Curry established a single-season school record for total offense with 2,676 yards and Peppers set a school record with 24 tackles for loss during the Tar Heels' 6-5 campaign. Former Tar Heel All-America and current Carolina Panther executive Charles Waddell was the keynote speaker.
Linebacker Brandon Spoon, who finished the season with over 100 tackles for the second time in his career, was named the winner of the William Rand Kenan Jr. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Academics, Athletics and Leadership.
The Charlie Justice Award for Outstanding Contribution on Offense was presented to tight end Alge Crumpler, while defensive tackle Anthony Perkins received the Charlie Justice Award for Outstanding Contribution on Defense.
