The Carolina Field Hockey Camp offers the enthusiast a wide variety of training within a one-week period. Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of the game through basic skill instruction and game related drills. Students will learn stick work, ball control, passing and offensive/defensive techniques throughout the week.
Nick Conway, Assistant Coach at Carolina, will direct this course. As a Tar Heel, he has helped direct UNC to three NCAA championships. A native of England, Nick has been a member of championship teams as a player and coach. Cindy Werley, of the USA National Team, and veteran of the 1996 Olympic Games, will assist Nick in the course.
The course has been designed for people of all ages and abilities, from beginner to seasoned athlete. Tuition for the Carolina Field Hockey Day Camp is $195. Enrollment is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. All campers are required to register by mailing an application with a check for $195. Applications can be obtained by calling Nick Conway at the UNC Field Hockey Office at (919) 967-3276 or by e-mailing Conway at nconway@email.unc.edu.
A sample daily camp schedule is as follows:
9-11:30 a.m., practice
Noon-2 p.m., Lunch and Movie
2:30-4:30 p.m., practice
5 p.m., pickup
Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. on July 24. Parents should arrange accident and health insurance for campers. Qualified athletic trainers will attend all instructional sessions. UNC Hospitals are nearby in case of emergencies.
