Wachovia hosted another exciting Challenge Event last Sunday as the Tar Heel women's basketball team defeated archrival NC State in overtime 83-77. More than 7,000 fans attended the game in the Smith Center and were rewarded with a terrific basketball game and several different Wachovia mementos, including rally rags, t-shirts, Frisbees, and mini-basketballs.
At halftime of the game, Wachovia sponsored "The Wachovia Bank Shot Tuition Contest," won by Laura Howard. Three former Tar Heels, Tracy Reid, Tonya Sampson, and Charlotte Smith, each attempted a three point shot worth $500 each. Smith, the last participant, made her shot to give Howard $500 toward her tuition at UNC. Wachovia also donated $500 to the General Scholarship Fund for Women's Athletics.
Wachovia is proud to foster the growth of women's sports at UNC through its Wachovia World of Women's Sports.
