Virginia Tech Wins Duke Classic; UNC Places Seventh

Durham, N.C. -- Virginia Tech won the team championship of the Duke Classic while the University of North Carolina moved from 15th position into seventh place after the third and final round with a 907 team total.
Georgia Southern's Justin Kolumber claimed top individual honors after a two-hole play off with Virginia Tech's Johnson Wagner. Both finished the 54 hole event tied at 217. The University of North Carolina's Dustin Bray had a temendous afternoon following a disapointing first round. The Asheboro Sophomore fired a second round 69 and a third round 71 giving him a fifth place finish. Tar Heel Junior Jeremy Elliott closed out the tournament with a third round score of one-under-par 71 placing him in a tie with Virginia's Steve Marino for 16th while Junior Ramon Bescansa and Sophomore Richard Treis both finished the day tied for 54th. Sophomore Matt Crenshaw and Junior Brad Moldin completed the third round with six-over-par 78's leaving them tied for 68th and 72nd respectively.
The Tar Heels will next compete in the The Presitge in Palm Desert, California on November 5th and 6th , 2001.
