Carolina Volleyball Hosts Wake Forest and Duke This Weekend

The ACC-leading UNC volleyball team is back in action this weekend hosting Duke at 7 p.m. Friday and Wake Forest at 6 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael Auditorium.
The Tar Heels (17-4, 9-1 ACC) have a one-match lead over the Blue Devils (16-2, 8-2 ACC) at the top of the ACC standings. Carolina won the first match of the season between the two teams, 3-1, Sept. 29, when Laura Greene totaled 15 kills and 21 digs, and Nicole Reis totaled 15 kills and 14 digs.
The Duke match will be worth 1.5 points in the Carlyle Cup standings. Currently, UNC leads Duke 10.5-0 with the Tar Heels winning three points in women's soccer, men's soccer and field hockey and 1.5 points for the volleyball victory Sept. 29.
Wake Forest (12-8, 5-5 ACC) arives in Chapel Hill sixth in the ACC. The Tar Heels won the season's first match between the two squads, 3-1, Sept. 28. The Heels were once again led by Greene with 14 kills and 16 digs and Reis with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Saturday's match will be senior night for two Tar Heels, Krista Buchholz, a middle hitter from Waupon, Wisc., and Melissa Higgins, a defensive specialist from Fariview, N.C.
Several Tar Heels enter the weekend ranked among the Atlantic Coast Conference statistical leaders. Holly Strauss leads the ACC in blocks with 114 total blocks (26 solo) and 1.52 blocks per game. Strauss also ranks ninth in hitting percentage with an average of .294.
Reis is second with 4.35 kills per game, and Greene is seventh at 3.90 kills per game. Greene is also second in the league in digs with 3.41 per game.
Setter Malaika Underwood is averaging 6.07 assists per game, good for 10th in the conference and 3.10 digs per game, which places her third in the league.
