The University of Maryland will be the top seed in the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Championship, which begins Thursday in Chapel Hill. Hosted by the University of North Carolina, the tournament will include games on Thursday, Friday and Sunday at Francis E. Henry Stadium. There is no charge for admission to the games.
Action begins on Thursday at 4 p.m. when fourth-seeded Virginia meets fifth-seeded Duke for the second time in five days. Virginia earned a 2-1 win in overtime against Duke on Sunday.
On Friday, third-seeded UNC will face second-seeded Wake Forest at 4 p.m. The Demon Deacons won both of this season's meetings with UNC by 2-0 scores.
At 7 p.m., Maryland, the top seed and defending ACC Champion will face the winner of Thursday's Virginia-Duke game.
The championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be televised live by Fox Sports Net South.
