GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina Tar Heels led the 2001 All-Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey team with a total of five players on the 14-member squad. Seniors Susan Hayes, Carrie Lingo, Abby Martin and Abbey Woolley and junior Amy Tran earned All-ACC honors, announced Thursday evening at the ACC Championship banquet.
All five are starters for the Tar Heels, 14-5 on the season and ranked fourth in the nation. UNC will begin ACC Tournament play Friday at 4 p.m. against Wake Forest, the second seed in the tournament and third-ranked team in the country.
Maryland and Wake Forest each placed four players on the All-ACC team and Duke had one selection. Wake Forest's Jemima Cameron and Maryland's Autumn Welsh shared ACC Player of the Year honors, while Maryland's Missy Meharg was named ACC Coach of the Year.
