
Three Tar Heel Field Hockey Players Named All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Three University of North Carolina field hockey players were listed among the nation's best Monday when the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced its All-America teams. Senior Carrie Lingo was named to the first team while senior Abby Martin and junior Amy Tran were named to the second team.
All three players are members of the U.S. National Team and earned earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors this season, which ended for Carolina with a loss to eventual-champion Michigan in the first round of NCAA Championships play. The Tar Heels completed the year with a record of 14-7.
Lingo, a midfielder from Rehoboth Beach, Del., was a team captain during the 2001 season and ranked fourth on the team with nine goals. In addition to All-ACC honors, she was named to the ACC All-Tournament team.
Martin, a back from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., led UNC in scoring this year with 40 points. She finished her career ranked eighth on UNC's all-time scoring list (128), ninth on the school's goals list (48) and tied for tenth on the school's assists list (30). She was named to the All-America third team last season.
Tran, a goalkeeper from Grantville, Pa., was a first-team All-America pick in 2000. She finished the 2001 season with a goals against average of 1.56.
