Carolina Golfer Dustin Bray Loses In Dixie Amateur

POMPANO BEACH, FLA. - Dustin Bray, a sophomore on Carolina's golf team, lost in the quarterfinals of the Dixie Amateur to Rob Oppenheim, 1-up. Earlier in the day, in the first round of match play, Bray defeated Alex Hamilton, 1-up in 19 holes to adavance to the quarterfinals at Palm Aire Country Club. All of match play will be on the Oaks Course while medal play took place on both the Oaks and Cypress Courses.
Prior to match play, Bray, from Asheboro, N.C., won medalist honors in medal play after firing rounds of 70-71-65 for an eight-under-par 206 total. The field was then cut to the top 16 players who advanced on to the match play portion of the Amateur.
ray was Carolina's top performer in the fall season. In the Heels' final tournament of the fall campagin, he tied for first place at The Prestige in Palm Desert, Calif., after firing rounds of 65-71-67 for a 13-under 203 total. Bray posted a 71.00 scoring average this fall.
