BUENOS AIRES--New Zealand scored two first half goals and held on to defeat the United States Under-21 team, 3-1, in the first game of the 4th Junior World Cup.
New Zealand's Lizzy Igasan scored on a penalty corner in the 10th minute and teammate Amanda Christie added a field goal five minutes later to give New Zealand an early 2-0 lead. However the U.S. struck back quickly with a field goal by U.S. senior team member and University of Virginia standout Jessica Coleman at the 19-minute mark to pull the team to within 2-1 at halftime.
New Zealand's Stacy Barr added a field goal on a steal and breakaway at the 50-minute mark to clinch the victory for the Kiwis.
Goalkeeper Amy Tran of North Carolina recorded the complete game in the cage for the U.S.
